Commander Jimmy Hough called the meeting to order, and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.  Chaplain Roger Miner gave the invocation prayer.

Secretary/Treasurer Jim Miller presented the “minutes” from the July 11th, 2009 meeting.  Ronald Glasser made the motion to accept the minutes.  Unanimously accepted.  Jim Miller reported a current total of $245.71 in the Island X-1 checking account.  There were no outstanding bills at this time.

Business Meeting

Bob Proctor had the new order of Seabee T- shirts available for purchase.  The shirts are in Bob Proctor’s possession and always available from him.

Richard Myers donated a cap, shirt, and Seabee emblems for silent auction to the Island.  The total amount received for these items was $62.00.  Thanks Richard and we will be praying for a speedy recovery from your recent surgery.

NSVA District Commander Dave Buchanan was our guest speaker.  We also enjoyed having his wife with us.  Dave gave us an up-date on National affairs and he also had good ideas that would help us with our Island.  Thanks for coming and we hope to see you back next year Dave!

Bill Williams and John Gogan also presented current information about Veteran’s Benefits.  It is always good to hear the latest in what is available to us.  Thanks guys!

The new Island X-1 business cards were discussed.  All agreed the cards had served a good purpose during the year.  We added three new member and the cards were given much of the credit.

(Want more cards, give Jim a ring)

The Seabee monument in Lincoln was discussed and Galen Young said the monument Looks Good!   Take your kids and grandkids to see it.  The monument is an important part of our history.

The possibility of memorials to those Seabees who have died in combat was discussed.  It was decided that we explore the possibilities of a plaque on the grave to the Seabee recently KIA from Grand Island.  Bill Williams, Jimmy Hough, and John Gogan agreed to look into this matter.

It was also agreed upon by the group that we should look into the possibility of a memorial to be placed at

the National Cemetery in Maxwell.  Dave Buchanan gave us information about what his Island was doing with monuments of this type.  Galen Young agreed to look into the possibility of a project like this and to see what could be done and what the cost might be.

A Special Thanks to Billy Graham for contributing the donuts and coffee!

A free will offering for lunch was collected from the membership.

Use of the Vet’s Club is donated by the club.  Thanks for this great gift!
