Navy Seabee Veterans of America, Island X-1, Kearney, NE

July 9th 2005 Meeting

 

Commander Wayne Zeiger called the meeting to order, and lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.  Chaplain Bill Henry gave the invocation prayer.

 

Secretary/Treasurer Jim Miller read the “minutes” from the July 10thh, 2004 meeting.  Bob Proctor made the motion to accept the minutes as read, Roger Miner seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously.

 

Jim Miller reported a total of $1612.39 in the Island X-1 checking account. Outstanding bills to be paid from checking accounts were:   the use of the room at the Aurora Vets Club, $75.00.  Annual Dues to National.  $129.00 to Bill Williams for past years web site.  $135.00 to Jan Miller for food for the reunion lunch.  $20.00 to Bonnie Williams for food for the reunion lunch.  Incoming bills for the Seabee Monument.   

There is presently $5635.66 in the Seabee Monument fund. Bill Williams made the motion to accept the Treasurers report as presented and to pay any outstanding bills in both Seabee Accounts.  Seconded by Roger Miner and the motion passed unanimously.

 

Old Business

 

It was noted that Merle Barton, of Kearney is the oldest known living Seabee in Nebraska, at 105 yrs of age. Bill Williams Moved and Bill Farmer seconded the motion to pay the annual membership for Mr. Barton.  Motion passed unanimously.

 

New Business

 

Gailen Young gave a report from the Monument Committee, of the progress on the Seabee Monument.  Things seem to be going well and should be completed to meet the dedication date of Veterans Day 2005.  Pictures were passed around to the members of shots taken of the monument and its progress.  Gailen's complete report can be obtained from him and the Monument Committee.  Current funds available etc. are listed below.  Commander Zeiger accepted the committee report as presented.

INSERT MONITARY UP-DATE REPORT

 

After a deposit of $1770.00 to the Monument Fund Account, Monday 10th July 2005, there was a total of $7405.66 in the account.

 

 

 

After a deposit of $887.00 to the Island X-1 Account, Monday 10th July 2005, there was a total of $2499.39 in the account.  (Outstanding bills are listed above in the Secretary/Treasurers report)

 

 

 

The total of both accounts is $9,905.05  (July 10, 2005)  

 

Special recognition was given to Gailen for all the work he has done this past year on the Seabee Memorial Monument.  Several others of you have worked on the committee and we all deeply appreciate your efforts.  Thank you much.

 

Representation to the National Seabee Convention was discussed.  It was suggested that Lavern Hass should represent Island X-1 and vote for us.  Motion to allow this was made by Bill Farmer and seconded by Bob Proctor.  Motion passed unanimously.

 

Time and Place for 2006  Reunion

 

The 2006 Site for the annual Island X-1 convention was discussed.  All were in agreement that the Aurora Vets Club would continue to be the best place for the convention.  The tentative dates are July 8th if the room is available, and the alternate date is the 15th if the room is taken the 8th.  Bill Graham will let the Secretary no the final date as soon as possible.

Bill Graham has secured July 8th 2006, as the final date for the 2006 Seabee Reunion to be held at the Aurora Vets Club.

 

 

 

A Special Thanks to Bill Graham for donating the Donuts!  All donations from the members who enjoyed this early morning treat were placed in the Island X-1 account.

PS.  Also Bill, we thank you for making arrangements for us to use the Vets Club each year.  We really appreciate your effort.

 

 

A Special Thanks to the Ladies of the Lunch!

 

Bonnie Williams and Jan Miller were responsible for the nice lunch served at noon. They were thanked for the fine job that they did.  All agreed that this was a great contribution and much appreciated.

 

Election of Officers

 

Officers for 2005-06 were discussed and names presented.  Roger Miner, is the present Senior Vice Commander and will move to the position of Commander.   Tom Margritz was nominated for Senior Vice Commander.  Jim Miller accepted the nomination of Secretary/Treasurer.  Bill Henry agreed to accept the nomination for Chaplain.

Votes were cast for the above nominees and in all cases the nominees were elected by majority vote.

 

Motion made by Jean Fells to adjourn the meeting, Second by Bill Farmer.

All agreed unanimously

We did it guys!  As Bruce Davidson said at the reunion this year, "I see no reason why the Seabee Monument won't be dedicated on Veterans Day 2005!

The rest of us don't see any reason why either, do we!
